Creatives far and wide in pursuit of enlightenment are journeying to NG Art Creative, a 17th century Provençal olive mill, Moulin de Gréoux, Maussane, offering a dedicated residency program and gallery, nestled in the foothills of the glorious Alpilles mountains.
Situated alongside les Vallées des Baux, and only a stone’s throw from the historic village, Les Baux de Provence, boasting a magnificent ancient castle ruin, the region offers sweeping views over the rocky outcrop of ragged peaks, cliffs, valleys, foothills and plains.
Olive groves are bountiful, and the Moulin de Gréoux retains all its charm from a bygone era, and original features that characterise the history of the olive mill with its imposing vaulted ceilings, original olive press, wooden beam, frails and troths.
A home away from home, NG Art Creative is a not for profit international multi-disciplinary association offering an all-inclusive place of respite, nourishment and enlightenment for artists, writers, poets, musicians, performers, filmmakers, photographers, academic scholars, and other creatives who seek to enrich their process.
A dedicated gallery within the Moulin de Gréoux, provides creatives the opportunity to showcase their work in regular seasonal, solo and group exhibitions. Feasts for the senses dinners, musical soirées, dance, performance and the like welcome the local and international community to partake in the residency’s unique cultural offerings.
We invite creatives to embark on imaginative endeavours, and immerse themselves in this environment of reflection and creative freedom, in the studio and en plein air. NG Art Creative also prides itself on offering a limited number of awards, prizes and sponsorship. We value the relevance of art and culture, inspiring new perspectives and engagement within a local and global context.
Directed and founded by long-standing gallerist, curator, entrepreneur, director and visionary Nicky Ginsberg, NG Art Creative is the collective brainchild of Ginsberg’s creative offspring; NG Art Gallery, Carlton Project Art Space, Kensington Contemporary Gallery, BEAMS Arts Festival, the Chippendale Creative Precinct, Mission Restaurant Bar and The Chip Off The Old Block, Sydney, Australia.
Born in London, schooled at the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle, attended University of Sydney to undertake a BA in Art History, and dwelled in Sydney for 30 years, she comes full circle and celebrates her love of art, culture and food in the epicenter of where it all began, France.
Open from February to November, Ginsberg invites creatives on their own artistic journeys to ignite their imaginations in a nurturing environment.
The Moulin de Gréoux was once a working olive mill producing oil from the renowned Maussane olives. This local delicacy forms the basis of many Provençal dishes and we delight in the succulent array of local olive oils, tapenades, and artisanal products, contributing to the sublime Mediterranean food experience to be enjoyed at the residency.
Today, in a Provençal backdrop of traditional gastronomy and a long-celebrated tapestry of art and culture, residents will be nourished from dawn until dusk, create en plein air, and explore a region steeped in a rich history of art, music, poetry and literature.
Creatives will have the opportunity to explore the region, learn the native tongue and try their hand at traditional Provençal cooking with local invited chefs from the region. They will engage with fellow creatives and an international community of artists, artisans, and creative thinkers.
By bright sunny day, moonlight or candlelight, creatives will feast on home cooked fare and Mediterranean delicacies. Picnic on local produce, artisan baguettes and scrumptious pastries, charcuterie boards of herb-crusted saucisson in the sun-kissed meadows of Provence.
Reside in the Moulin de Gréoux living quarters alongside host and mentor Nicky Ginsberg and her partner Edwin Holder-Vale, fellow artist.
Above all, NG Art Creative will provide a sanctuary for creatives to paint, draw, sculpt, write, sing, rhyme, film, photograph, ponder life and collaborate. Residents are encouraged to share ideas, engage in philosophical inquiry and discourse, add new skill sets to their repertoire, and be surrounded by like-minded people in a meeting of creative minds.
Whether in the Moulin de Gréoux atelier, or en plein air in the warm golden light, creatives can continue on their journey, perhaps a road unknown.
Provence has inspired the likes of artists Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, and Paul Cezanne, writers Frederik Mistral, Marie de Rabutin-Chantal and Marie Mauron, poet and screenwriter Jacques Prévert, poet Joseph Roumanille, composer and musician Olivier Messiaen, and novelists Alphonse Daudet and Peter Mayle, to name but a few.
Moulin de Gréoux caters for up to six creative residents at any one time, sublime farm to table experience.
Creatives can apply here by submitting a 600-word response to a number of criteria and providing an example of work.
As a not for profit association, we are proud members of the Res Artis community, the 26-year-old organisation is a Worldwide Network of Arts Residencies from around the globe. Their network comprises of more than 550 vetted members in over 85 countries.
Their aim is to support and connect residencies, engage and advocate the importance of residencies in today’s society, and provide recommendations towards cultural mobility research and policy.
