Nicky Ginsberg

London born Nicky Ginsberg has been immersed in the art world for over 30 years. She has been collecting and dealing in International contemporary Art since 1991, and as director of NG Art Gallery, Sydney (est. 2006), one of Chippendale’s first commercial galleries, Nicky has nurtured the careers of some of Australia’s most influential contemporary artists and exhibited their work nationally and globally.

Nicky is also a proud member of London’s Chelsea Arts Club and global network ResArtis.

Her greatest achievement in the Australian arts landscape was the inspirational and collaborative spirit she leant to a variety of Australian and international arts programs and her commitment to championing emerging and established artists throughout all stages of their careers.

As founder and President of the not-for-profit organisation Chippendale Creative Precinct, Sydney, Nicky was the life force behind Chippendale’s transformation into Sydney’s premier arts and culture destination. Having seen the immense potential of the hidden inner-city suburb, Nicky rose to the challenge, transforming Chippendale into one of Sydney’s most vibrant melting pots of art and culture.

In her role as President of the precinct, Nicky oversaw numerous initiatives including historical and gallery walking tours, architectural tours, food and wine safaris, and most notably founded and curated the internationally acclaimed annual BEAMS Arts Festival. Every September, since its inception in 2012, BEAMS transformed Chippendale into a mesmerising spectrum of art, light, music and performance, establishing itself as one of the most influential and anticipated multi-disciplinary arts events of Sydney’s arts calendar.

Nicky was also Director of Carlton Project Space and Kensington Contemporary, Chippendale. Nicky’s love for the arts and passion for igniting the careers of emerging artists led her to establish the Chippendale World Art Residency, the Henri Milan Art Prize, the Stanley Quek Art Prize, the Gallery Heimat Art Prize, amongst others with the sole purpose of promoting and engaging with new and established contemporary artists.

Nicky has culminated her passion for art and culture with the obvious trifecta; food. After opening the Good Day Café in Paddington (est. 1988), she then went on to transform a spectacular Gothic Revival-style Church in Chippendale into NG Art Gallery and Mission Restaurant Bar (est. 2006), showcasing robust, rustic Mediterranean cuisine alongside contemporary Australian art for discerning foodies and art lovers alike.

She later converted the restaurant into The Chip Off The Old Block (est. 2014), a restaurant turned bar that served up British pub grub and tipples to Sydney folk, to engage with the ever-evolving marketplace. An avid foodie and cook herself, Nicky’s passion for food and cooking is deeply ingrained in all her endeavours.

Nicky often sojourned in France as a child and was schooled at the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle. She is fluent in French and has always been drawn to the French way; the people, its history, its philosophy, the food, and most importantly, the arts. A recent expedition of her own to creative residencies in Assisi, Italy and Kefalonia, Greece further inspired her to embark on a new creative venture in 2017; the NG Art Creative Residency in Provence.

The roads of the Art World are well travelled by Nicky Ginsberg and she now directs and resides at NG Art Creative in the Moulin de Gréoux, Provence, Southern France. The residency was first established in Eygalières in 2017 and was located in the infamous house of the Pilgrims, Mas des Pelerins, aka known as La Maison de Bonheur.

NG Art, the Chippendale Creative Precinct, Carlton Project Space, Kensington Contemporary, the BEAMS Arts Festival, Mission Restaurant Bar, The Chip Off The Old Block and, now the NG Art Creative are products of Nicky’s vision, collaborative efforts and indefatigable spirit.

From London, to Australia, France and beyond;

The twists and turns of nature surprise with the unexpected. The continuum is broken into a series of vignettes woven by threads of silk into tapestries of colourful hues. There is a disorder in the order of the universe, a chaos of perfect imperfections.
